Yesterday 2 minor mishaps that could have ended badly didn't! First, the "it wasn't me" kid didn't close one of the van doors the night before and the door light was left on all night. We had to go to Ikego in the morning for the homeschool karate class and I was really hoping the battery wasn't dead. Surprisingly, it was fine.
Then, just as we were running late to leave for Ikego, a neighbor stopped by to give us some nori (dried seaweed laver or kim in Korean). One son opened the door and our dog Mocha bolted outside. The last time she did that it was a total fiasco because she didn't listen to us to come back and instead ran all over our neighborhood, ferociously barking at random people. Several worried neighbors came out and someone called the owner who notified our rental agent about it before we eventually got her to come back. This time, however, Mocha came back right when we called her! Whew, thank God!Yesterday, the off-base free kids' nihongo (Japanese language) class at the community center near Daiei resumed after the New Year break. They taught the kids a folk song called "Furusato" and told us it is played over the loudspeaker from the local school or park. I heard a sound outside and asked the sensei to open the window so the kids could hear the Furusato song they were learning. We quickly opened the window but it was playing "Evening Colors", the military song from the base. Furusato is played at 4pm, Evening Colors at 5pm...
Too Literal
One of my sons can take things a little too literally. Last week, we were running late, rushing from his dental cleaning appointment to swim team practice. He told me, "Mom, I need something for my mouth during swim practice." Me: "What? I don't have anything. Why do you need it?" Son: "The lady (dental hygienist) told me not to eat or drink anything for 30 minutes and I always get water in my mouth when I swim".2011_10 Umikaze Koen, Yokosuka Grace Bible Church Picnic

Knitting Project
My friend Joanne S. and others from our local knitting group have been knitting neck warmers to help Japan's earthquake and tsunami victims up north for the upcoming winter. Maybe someday I will improve and advance in my knitting skills to be able to make something like this!
